ANUKALA YOGA COMMUNITY WAS FOUNDED BY MICHAEL
I established Anukala Yoga Community to share the knowledge, practices & experience I gathered in India, & the years before, on Yoga, Vedanta, Tantra & holistic therapies. To give Yoga practitioners the foundation required to then move towards a more spiritual existence whilst still living a modern lifestyle.
Anukala Yoga Community strengthens the bonds between Western practicality & Eastern spirituality for the betterment & well-being of all.
Every Blessing,
Michael
'I landed at Indira Gandhi Airport with one intention, to find my Guru. Albeit within six weeks, coronavirus had India in a chokehold.'
'When I arrived in Uttarkashi, a hill station on the Indo-Tibetan border, tensions had reached fever pitch. Within hours of arriving, I was before the area's District Magistrate, who in response to the threat, confined me to Vimleshwar Mandir.
An ancient temple within dense alpine forest, located 2000ft high on Varunavat mountain, overlooking the township.'
'As weeks passed and the initial fear of the virus abated, indwellers of the mountain’s communities Sangrali, Pata, Bagyalgaon and Gangori started to return and pay homage at the temple. Piecemeal, ritual and ceremony again filled the grounds with mantra, kirtan and the scent of homa and I was initiated into the practices of Sanātana Dharma. An inner-science that controls the mind in order to gradually transcend its limitations.'
'In early-August, lockdown restrictions eased in the Uttarakhand and with my stay at Vimleshwar coming to an end, I made farewell and ventured down Varunavat to the banks of the Bhagirathi River and the gates of Swami Premanand Saraswati's, Sivananda Ashram.'
'Swami Premanand, one of the last remaining direct disciples of Swami Sivananda, and a Himalayan Master of immense repute, would conduct a daily satsang on ‘Yoga Vasistha’.
A Sanskrit text of formidable size and great notoriety that comprises the teachings of Yogic and Vedantic philosophy.'
'Aside from studying Eastern philosophy under the guidance of my Guru, teaching English at the nearby school and writing poetry next to the coruscant waters of the Ganga, I would busy myself with the ashram’s daily activities. Assuming the role of cameraman for its many events and composing articles on Vedanta to feature in their monthly publication.'
