śodhana (शोधन) means purification, cleansing, or refining and in this pranayam the practice purifies the channels (Nadis) that our energy travels through in our sūkṣma śarīra (Subtle body).
This in turn, balances hormones, improves the functioning of the respiratory system and enhances our capability to draw in more oxygen, leading to greater peace of mind and well-being.
