The word Yoga means ‘to yoke’ or ‘form union with’ and is applicable to all methods and practices that help remove the conditioning and misapprehensions that cover up our true, inherent nature to reveal the ever-present equanimity and joy within us all.
An exact inner-science, based on certain immutable laws of life, Yoga upholds the spiritual truths found in all sincere faiths.
Not belonging to any particular race, place or creed, Yoga is available to all to improve their physical and mental health and to help them navigate a surer passage through life.

In the West, we typically cherry-pick the aspects of Yoga we enjoy the most, notably yogasanas (physical postures), pranayam (breathwork) and its various meditation techniques, but leave aside those parts we deem as unnecessary for living a modern, Western lifestyle. However, to do so leaves our sadhana incomplete and higher stages of meditation out of reach, as the mind remains relatively unchecked.
Therefore, at Anukala Yoga Community, we adopt an all-encompassing approach towards Yoga, focusing on its physical aspects and philosophical principles.

The 3P’s: Practice, Perseverance & Patience
During our Hatha Yoga classes in Stroud, we will teach you various yogasanas, pranayam and meditation techniques, and dedicate part of the class to impart their underpinning Yogic philosophy.
Michael clearly demonstrates and explains the benefits of each asana to ensure you are comfortable in performing the posture, and he is always available either inside or outside of class to further assist with any doubts or queries regarding your own personal practice.
In addition to our in-person classes, throughout the week, 1:2:1 and online classes are available on request.
Anukala Yoga Community also offers engaging online videos, regularly updated articles and a monthly e-magazine to share insights and knowledge on a wide range of practices and teachings related to Yoga, Vedanta and Tantra, including mantra, kirtan, yagna and more.
